Before I set out on this mission, I spoke to over 80 women who repeated similar sentences. Even I, myself, used to speak like that.
"Bear with it, it is nothing," they all said.
But was it really nothing? I had faced these absurdities myself, but was taught to just push through them. It was my sister’s condition that triggered it in me.
She is now a medical student, and I have always been very proud of her. At the time, she was studying for her 12th standard Boards exams, and for NEET. While wincing in pain and with tears in her eyes, she struggled to stay focused somehow by keeping hot water bottles wrapped in towels, having painkillers, and whatnot. Everyone, including herself, maintained that this was simply ‘normal’.
No, It was not normal. It couldn't be.
The pursuit of excellence does not allow for any rest.We are ‘told’ that pain is an inevitable evil that we must bear silently. It is frustrating that simply having a female body puts us at a major disadvantage, and that it is taken for granted by our own community. We’re living in the 21st century, and women still do not have a truly effective solution to such a basic problem as this. I knew something has to be done. Because pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.
The solitude of the pandemic triggered the final resolve, and Ednam was created with two objectives:
